Felony Attorney in Redding

Put Our Experience on Your Side

Felonies are the more serious criminal charge. A felony conviction can subject you to long jail or prison sentences, a loss of rights and have many other lasting negative effects. In these serious situations it is that much more important that you have counsel that has the skill, knowledge, and experience which is necessary to successfully fight serious charges.

A felony is much different than a misdemeanor in many different ways.  The first is the severity of the potential punishment and other consequences (also known as collateral consequences).  Unlike misdemeanor crimes, which carry a maximum of one year in county jail, felonies will carry longer sentences; depending on the charge the difference may be many years.  In addition, if convicted of a felony, you may have to serve that sentence in a state prison, not the county jail.

Along with potentially more severe punishments, felonies may subject you to other negative collateral consequences that you wouldn’t otherwise have to deal with if convicted of a misdemeanor.  For instances, a convicted felon cannot own, possess, transport, buy, sell or otherwise have access to firearms.  This firearms prohibition is life-long unless the convicted person can successfully petition the state (this is called a Governor’s pardon).

Felony cases also follow a different procedure than misdemeanors.  Like a misdemeanor, a felony case starts of with and arraignment, but the next step is something different.  The second step in a felony case is called a preliminary hearing.

We Have A Proven Track Record

One of the high-profile cases Prentiss Law handled was the murder of Bridgett Jacobs. Her husband, Philip Jacobs, was charged with her murder. Our office was retained to defend Mr. Jacobs.

We thankfully live in a country that values the rule of law and due process.  Our laws have developed the right of every person to a zealous defense, and an insistence that only facts, in a court of law, can convict someone accused with a crime.
